A WIGAN man who bought ‘a banger’ for £150 had it transformed by autobody repair specialists the Karl Vella Group after they teamed up Rock FM for the ‘Rock My Ride’ competition. Damian Wilson, 20, of Wigan, put his “embarrassing” Vauxhall Corsa forward for a makeover and was amazed when it won the competition.
He bought the car because he needed to get to work even though it was more ‘Wreck My Ride’ than ‘Rock My Ride’, with a different coloured bonnet and bumper to the rest of the car.
Ex St John Rigby college student Damian said: “It was an embarrassment when I first got it, it really looked awful and to be honest was a bit of a banger but I needed to get to my work. So when I heard about the competition, I entered it but didn’t think in my wildest dreams that I’d win. I was contacted an hour before the competition closed and told it was very, very close and I ended up winning.”
Damian, who plays guitar in Wigan band The Articles, recently received his car back after Skelmersdale-based Karl Vella Group gave it a makeover which included a full spray, new tyres and alloy wheels, window tinting, sound system and valet.
And Damian’s verdict?
“The work that has been carried out is really fantastic - it was way more than I expected and then some,” said Damian.
“I love driving the car and I’ve done a lot more of it since my car was overhauled,” he added.
David Vella, Group Operations Director for the Karl Vella Group, said: “We’re really pleased that Damian now has a car he can be proud of. We’ve got a top team here who worked hard to give Damian’s car an overhaul and when it came out of the workshop it looked like a completely different car."
